The other quick and easy addition to your dog’s diet that we love is Sardines. If you can get hold of frozen fresh whole sardines, that’s even better!

Did you know
Sardines are small, soft-boned fish that are amongst the lowest levels of mercury of any fish, making them safe to be consumed by our dogs. They are rich in omega-3 and an excellent source of calcium, vitamin D and B-12.

Bowie’s Simply Sardines filling recipe also has psyllium husk which is a great source of soluble fibre that can help relieve both constipation and diarrhea. Read more about the importance of adding Fibre to your dog’s diet here.

Bowie’s Egg Dumpling Recipe

Makes about 8–10 dumplings
Please portion according to your dog’s weight and dietary needs. Always introduce new foods slowly and monitor. If you’re unsure with the ingredients, consult with your vet/pet nutritionist.

Filling (adapted from Simply Sardines Recipe)
2 frozen fresh whole sardines* (roughly chopped)
1/2 to 1 tsp psyllium husk
1 tsp fresh parsley (finely chopped)

*If you can’t find fresh ones, you can substitute with tinned sardines (in springwater).

2 medium/large eggs
1/2 to 1 tsp plain flour*

*The plain flour will make the egg mixture thicker and stay tender/moist so it’s easier to form the wrapper. You can also add a little bit of milk or grated cheddar/parmesan cheese.

  1. Mix all the filling ingredients well.
  2. Beat the eggs and mix well with the flour. Make sure there are no clumps.
  3. You need a non-stick frying pan, a soup ladle and spatula to make dumpling cooking much easier.
  4. You can oil the frying pan with coconut oil or olive oil, but I find that it’s not necessary when you use a non-stick frying pan.
  5. Heat the frying pan in high heat first then reduce to medium heat.
  6. See images below for cooking steps.
Pour the egg mixture into the frying pan.
Use the back of the soup ladle to make a circle.
You can just gently press the soup ladle onto the egg mixture and swirl it clockwise.
Place filling in the centre and fold wrapper whilst the egg mixture is still semi wet. Press the edges to seal.
Use a spatula to fold – it’s easier! Flip the dumpling to cook the other side. It’s important to keep the heat on medium so you don’t burn the egg wrapper.

There you go… super easy, and not to mention, healthy too!
