Ep.5 Heart to Heart Chat with Michelle Cogley (Animal Escapades)

I came to know Michelle and her beautiful boy Diesel when I attended one of Michelle’s workshops about Canine Communication Code. Along with her loyal companion and right hand man, Diesel, Michelle has a mission to inspire and educate people all over the world – how to connect with their dogs on a deeper level than simply that which is physical.

Diesel is also completely blind with a condition known as Progressive Retinal Atrophy. This rare condition attacks the retina of the eyes and is a genetic illness of which there is no cure. It is through this condition taking hold by the age of 6 that Diesel has taught Michelle so much more than which she could ever have learnt as a trainer with a fully sighted dog.

Michelle talks about the unspoken, unseen ‘Power of Connection’ between human and our canine friends, and that they are always talking to us. But the question is, ‘Are we listening?’

What is this Connection?
Ok, do you ever feel that you just click with a person? Or, that sometimes you can feel when someone is sad, in pain, or up to no good? Or, just when you thought of someone, then they reappeared in your life? If the answer is yes, then you have experienced this so-called unspoken, unseen connection.

This connection doesn’t stop only with humans. We’re capable of feeling such a deep connection with our surroundings – nature, animals including our canine friends – when we truly listen and open our eyes.

Dogs are very sensitive creatures. Their senses are much more finely tuned than us. They know things we do not know, they see things we cannot see, they pick things about us more than we realise, they understand us more than some humans do, and they’re always talking to us.

So next time, when you gaze at your dog’s eyes and feel that they get you, they probably are. Perhaps, if we learn how to listen and communicate with them, we can understand our canine friends and ourselves a bit better.

Who else can you trust to learn about yourself? Of course your best friend – it goes without saying.
